LEAP - QT Summer Early Childhood Educator at Fairbanks
 
 
 
This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a state AmeriCorps program that places members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont to support those organizations in expanding services that many communities rely on. LEAP members provide direct service in the form of educational programming to PreK-12 Youth in STEAM subject areas and early literacy projects. LEAP supports members through trainings and professional development opportunities throughout their service term. This is a Quarter Time positions that requires completion of 450 service hours, approximately 40 hours per week. Member will earn a (pre-tax) living allowance of $5,850 paid bi-weekly and upon successful completion of service, a (pre-tax) Education Award of $1,824.07. The Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium leads innovative, inquiry based youth education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) and Vermont. The mission of the Museum is to inspire appreciation for our place in the natural world and to motivate our stewardship of a healthy planet. The goals of this position are to inspire 4-8 year olds about the natural world through direct service.

Member Duties : - Assist staff in facilitating nature-based education camp for children ages 4 to 8 - Plan and provide daily STEAM activities for extended day camp program - Assist with butterfly house maintenance, including watering plants and caring for the butterflies - Assist in botany research and data collection/management for our flower table exhibit and collections department - Help keep classroom attractive and organized to maximize student learning opportunities - Keep communication current with museum staff - Treat children, parents, other teachers and volunteers with respect and dignity - Participate in required LEAP/SerVermont events as well as have access to participate in optional service projects and trainings. - Attend required LEAP orientation training either via Zoom or in person prior to beginning service
