VYDC-Twinfield Together Mentoring Program
PROGRAM: The fulltime & part-time members of the VT Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) implement diverse youth initiatives, fostering positive development & building resilience to help youth avoid opioid misuse & other unhealthy behaviors, transcend the effects of COVID-19, and the gain academic, social, & job skills needed to thrive. Website: SITE: Twinfield Together Mentoring Program (TtMP) aims to provide all interested youth, in the VT communities of Plainfield & Marshfield, an opportunity for a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a responsible, attentive, and nurturing role model. There are 3 mentoring programs under our umbrella: community-based mentoring, school-based mentoring, and peer to peer mentoring. The VYDC-TtMP AmeriCorps Member enhances mentoring relationships across all three programs, develops outreach and public relations for the mentoring programs, and supports high school mentors in their role as peer leaders with younger youth. The member also fosters participation of Twinfield Union School youth in healthy and fun afterschool enrichment activities. The member enhances existing afterschool programs and designs engaging new programs and clubs for 7th -12th grade students. The afterschool space is an opportunity to teach, mentor, and learn new and engaging activities. Twinfield School is located on 60 acres of land in Marshfield, VT, and the AmeriCorps member has access to recreational equipment. Applicants should be willing to be physically active and be able to set good boundaries with youth. COVID-19: Youth in our community have created a “Peer Leadership” group as a way to meet the needs of our community, while also supporting younger youth in navigating a post-pandemic world. The member enhances these youth lead initiatives by building relationships with youth, and helping them build on the skills to organize and lead projects important to them. Location: Marshfield, VT
