Website: VermontYouthAmeriCorps.org SITE: Maplehill School & Farm is a safe, caring, land-based educational community where relationships inspire learning. Our mission is to provide real-world educational experiences where students gain practical skills and personal successes. By acquiring academic, vocational, and social skills, students are prepared for education, employment, and independent living. Maplehill serves youth 12-22 with a variety of social, learning and emotional disabilities. We provide small group and individualized instruction and engage students in activities such as service learning, project-based learning, vocational training, internships, recreational activities, and farming & gardening. On our 230 acres farm, students engage in growing food which feeds the school & local communities. We employ nurturing restorative practices (self-reflection, clear & empathic communication, personal resilience) and celebrate everyone’s contributions. Our 2 rural campuses provide a safe, caring community for students. The AmeriCorps member expands our Farm-to-School & community outreach activities, collaborates with staff to provide healthy, locally grown food to students and staff year-round, and educates students nutrition, culinary life skills, humane animal care, and food production basics. COVID-19: AmeriCorps members expand our capacity to offer youth opportunities they may not have had access to during the pandemic. Location: Plainfield, VT
