VYT-Howard Center

PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: Howard Center serves the most vulnerable, and we work to improve the well-being of children, adults, families, and communities. We provide supports and services to address mental health, substance use, and developmental needs. We support 16,000 annually in their path toward independence, health and wellness, and self-sufficiency through education, training, and support. Among our services are therapeutic schools, residential programs for people with mental illness and developmental disabilities, outpatient counseling, medication assisted recovery, crisis services, and a range of related programs. The VISTA is placed with the Development & Communications team, which supports the agency’s poverty-alleviation focus through marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, donor relations, fundraising, and internal communications. The VISTA organizes and implements public education events, maintains and builds on our social media presence, and assists in gift processing and donor cultivation. The VISTA increases awareness of our programs so that people in need, especially youth and families, know they can turn to Howard Center; ensure that the public is well-informed, the philanthropic community understands our services. COVID-19 has exacerbated anxiety, depression, and substance use among youth and families living poverty. The VISTA directly supports our COVID-19 recovery by promoting and raising funds for critical services. Office: Burlington, VT.
