Metropolitant Education Commission- RCAC College Mentor
 
 
 
The Metropolitan Education Commission (MEC) composed of 34 Citizen Commissioners, advises, makes recommendations, and serves as an advocate in all the areas as they affect the educational welfare of the citizens of Tucson and Pima County. The MEC’s goals include: To empower and advocate for students, their teachers, and their families; To acknowledge individuals and groups within the community whose exemplary service to students and to education merits such special recognition; and to promote graduation from high school as a first step toward an enriched future for students and a realistic sense of their place within the community. In 2007 the MEC established, the first in Arizona, Regional College Access Center (RCAC) in 2007 to facilitate the access to and success in higher education for all Pima County students, with a special focus on students from low-income households and/or who are the first in their family to attend postsecondary education programs. Its goals are to help students prepare for college, pay for college, graduate from college, and to support workforce development. The RCAC College Mentors will be assigned the supervision of two (2) high school RCAC Student Ambassadors who will provide one-on-one peer college access and preparation through evaluation, workshops, presentations, events and serve as a peer advisor through May 26, 2016. **This is an AmeriCorps 300 Hour (Minimum Time) position. Members will be working approximately 6-8 hours/per week and participate in 2-3 hours of monthly training.**

Member Duties : The member will meet with assigned RCAC Student Ambassadors on a weekly basis, review weekly Google Docs reporting by Student Ambassadors, assist with providing direction and focus for Student Ambassadors, assist in the development of surveys, distribute surveys in person, mail or email, input survey data, assist in the evaluation of data, assist RCAC Coordinator with preparation for college access workshops, presentations and events, attend and/or lead college access workshops and presentations, train students, and in some cases families, on how to use the RCAC Website, complete data entry and keep documentation for participants in RCAC workshops, presentations and events, schedule appointments with students and their families and provide college access information using the RCAC Website, assist RCAC Coordinator with preparation for advising appointments, learn as much as possible about the “college access process” in order to be a resource for other students.
