After-School Program Coordinator

Kid Power inspires youth leadership by promoting academic advancement, physical and emotional wellness, and positive civic engagement in under-served communities throughout the District of Columbia. Kid Power embraces youth voice and believes that every young person can become an informed and engaged advocate for change in their own lives and in their communities. Kid Power provides five core programs to address youth needs: 1) Daily After-School, 2) 5-week Summer Leadership Academy, 3) In-School Health and Wellness, 4) Alumni and Mentoring Programming for Older Youth, 5) High Impact Tutoring. Programs are designed to help youth achieve success in school, meaningful civic engagement, healthy behaviors, and successful transitions into adulthood. At Kid Power, our After-School AmeriCorps Program Coordinators receive a wide variety of professional development opportunities throughout their 1-year of service commitment. Kid Power staff intentionally work with AmeriCorps members to support their larger career goals. AmeriCorps members have received work experience for many relevant work fields: • Education • Non-profit Management • Social Work • Psychology • Community Development • Consulting AmeriCorps members will be assigned to an after-school site and help run daily logistics, help recruit new volunteers and resources for their school site, and will work directly with students each afternoon. Members will also oversee daily program operations for the Summer Leadership Academy while creating original content that is delivered daily to participants.
