Empowering Teens for Success

The Teens Act College & Career Readiness Program contains three major facets that together involve over 200 hours of high school student involvement per site; (1) Teens Act Student Success Class, which is an approved class taken during the day at participating high schools. It focuses on increasing students’ motivation, college going culture, study skills, and credit recovery. We also offer the Afterschool Tutoring Program and a quarterly Parent Support Program, which gives parents a valuable support network and resources in both Spanish and English. We have researched evidence driven curriculum, and specifically implement them for our students’ needs and situation. At Teens Act, we know that underserved students whose GPAs are too low to be accepted to other programs are the students who have the greatest need. This is why we focus on students at risk of dropping out, a characteristic which differentiates Teens Act from other programs. We specifically target students who have less than 2.5 GPA, are from low-income families, and would be the first generation in their family to go on to higher education. We are the only nonprofit in Utah that proactively target underserved students who are struggling the most. We are developing a potentially transformative program model that empowers more youth and their parents as we expand in Utah, and eventually nationwide.
