Reentry program: 40% - Assist the Reentry Navigator to provide pre-release training and advising through the WorkSource Oregon Reentry program - Supervise adults in custody as they use the computer labs for WorkSource resources in each of our three institutions - Support the Reentry Navigator’s work with campus resources and post- release support services - Support the Reentry Navigator with data collection, case management, answering questions from Adults in Custody, and outreach with local partner organizations - Help with administrative duties as required by the program College Inside program: 40% - Assist the College Inside Student Services Specialist with administrative duties - Answer questions in person and through the prison’s kyte (memo/mail) system - Provide backup support for faculty and our computer lab supervisor in the institutions - Assist with transportation and distribution of materials including textbooks and student class supplies - Help with administrative duties as assigned General program support: 20% - Attend program meetings and support the Prison Education team on an as-needed basis - Help with creation of outreach materials Required Qualifications: - Upon hire, the candidate must pass a security inquiry which may include criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered. - Must be able to work inside the correctional facilities, which requires approval from the Oregon Department of Corrections. Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, peer recovery, social work, or other related degrees (Accepting applicants with GED/High School Diploma) - Experience providing wrap-around support services - Cultural competence and a non-judgmental approach - Bilingual English/Spanish - Strong interpersonal and communication skills - Knowledge of the criminal justice system, workforce development, and community resources

Member Duties : Chemeketa Community College in Salem, OR has been offering education services in Salem prisons for over 20 years. Chemeketa’s Prison Education and Community Reentry department runs our college inside program, SOAR (Student Opportunities for Achieving Results), GED/ABE/ESL, an automotive certificate program, and reentry services. We work in the three men’s prisons in Salem–the Oregon State Penitentiary, Oregon State Correctional Institution, and Santiam Correctional Institution. We are a dedicated team focused on helping students who are incarcerated and post-release individuals achieve lifelong success. This AmeriCorps volunteer position will focus on supporting the college inside program and reentry services.
