Youth Tutor/Mentor 900 Hour

Program Overview The AmeriCorps EXL program provides holistic support to students. All students benefit from structured games and conflict-resolution activities during recess and lunch. Students identified for additional support receive targeted tutoring in literacy or math and/or participate in small-group mentoring focused on social-emotional growth. Essential AmeriCorps Duties Active Recess: Facilitate daily structured games and activities that promote teamwork, inclusion, and positive behavior during recess and lunch. Mentor students in conflict resolution and cooperative play. Academic Tutoring: Provide daily 30-minute tutoring sessions—1:1, in pairs, or small groups—at least four days per week for students below grade level in reading or math. Lesson plans are developed or supported by teachers/curriculum. Mentoring Services: Lead weekly 30-minute mentoring sessions—individually or in small groups—focused on relationship-building, emotional regulation, and personal development. Mentors work with the same students for consistency and trust. Expanded Learning Support: Support after-school programs (COOL School) by helping with homework, enrichment, and recreational activities. Members also assist with Spring Break and Summer programs that extend learning beyond the classroom.
