ShareCorps-Community Organizer Youngstown

Recognized as one of the most successful application completion assistance programs in the nation, The Ohio Benefit Bank™, a program of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, trains 2,000 counselors every year to assist people in obtaining state and federal benefits like food assistance, health care coverage, tax credits, and more. The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB™) is available at about 1,300 sites spread throughout all of Ohio's 88 counties. Our OBB community organizers (CO's) help us to build and maintain a network of faith-based and community organizations committed to stabilizing low-income working families and seniors living on fixed incomes by connecting them to income enhancement programs. When these federal benefits are left untapped, the funds go to other states for the same programs instead of assisting Ohioans in need. Since 2006, the OBB has potentially brought over $865 million to Ohioans—funds that were used at childcare centers, doctors’ offices, and grocery stores— creating an economic impact while supporting the people who need it most. Being a part of this statewide program means being a part of a movement, where the best practices you discover can grow into statewide implementation. Build skills in public speaking, adult training, event coordination, marketing, and more. Build partnerships that enhance the OBB network while networking with nonprofits, hospitals, schools, local government offices, and more.
