OASHF- Jackson County Summer Free Lunch for Kids
 
 
 
Jackson Summer Free Lunch for Kids is an organization founded six years ago by Carol Downton, a retired school teacher who identified the need to feed children over the summers when school-based breakfasts and lunches were not available. The program successfully operates several sites in the City of Jackson. The project has now identified a need to expand its services to more sites within the Jackson and Wellston communities, as well as the village of Coalton, the unserved rural regions of the county, and into neighboring Vinton County which currently has no summer feeding sites. Jackson Summer Free Lunch for Kids is partnering with COAD, the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development, whose mission is to support poverty-stricken citizens in rural Appalachian Ohio.

Member Duties : The VISTAs will work within the community to develop resources (financial and human), research best practices, recruit volunteers, create infrastructure, and operationalize a sustainable weekend backpack program to serve low-income elementary school students in the school districts identified within the service areas of Jackson and Oak Hill School Districts.
