OASHF - Feeding Medina County
 
 
 
Feeding Medina County(FMC) provides county-wide delivery services to food pantries via the FMC refrigerated van twice weekly. FMC coordinates the following programs; Staples for Seniors which provides shelf-stable food to seniors living in poverty at the end of each month to tide them over till their SS or pension checks arrive; the Weekenders Program provides for 6 pounds of food to be delivered to children at elementary schools who are enrolled in free lunch programs to tide them over the weekend, and a Community Garden. FMC also coordinates the monthly free food distribution where 18,000 pounds of food are provided to eligible consumers. FMC is involved in community food drive planning, fund-raising, grant-writing, PR hunger promotions, recruiting and training of volunteers.

Member Duties : Feeding Medina County proposes to use the VISTA member to develop a survey/ questionnaire to be used to evaluate the transit services provided to the more than twenty food pantries we serve. Feeding Medina County provides pick-up and delivery of food orders placed at the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank by local food pantries. We also propose to use the VISTA member to collect pertinent data from a variety of resources such as the 2010 U.S. Census, a local community needs assessment spearheaded by United Way of Medina County, and hospital surveys.
