OASHF- Catholic Social Services

Catholic Social Services is a faith-based social service agency focused on improving the quality of life for people of all faiths and backgrounds throughout Central and Southern Ohio. CSS helps vulnerable people at their most vulnerable times. Our programs are focused to strengthen families, guide individuals toward economic stability and serve as the extended family giving care and support to seniors. The Friendly Visitor program will utilize adults and families to provide support and one-on-one assistance to adults in need of companionship, running errands, and respite care. Through these services, adults with physical, emotional, or mental disabilities can maintain or regain a higher level of independence. A Friendly Visitor will be assigned one or two clients and expected to volunteer one or three hours per week, depending on the need of the client. The Marketing and Development department helps familiarize the community with agency programs and provides for opportunities for people to support services. The focus of this department is to enhance the public image of the agency, as well as solicit funding through campaigns and fund-raising events. The agency provides both print and electronic communications, with newsletters, an annual report and periodic email blasts. The development office conducts 3 fund-raising events each year.

Member Duties : The VISTA worker (VW) will have a dual focus. Approximately 50% of the week will be spent developing a new Friendly Visitation program with a focus to reduce isolation among area seniors and persons with disabilities. The VW will be expected to further develop the program and to promote the service in the community, and work with the Parish Liaison and with local parishes to recruit, screen, train and coordinate volunteers to visit isolated clients. The VW will also work to increase the agency's marketing efforts, and will also be directly involved in fund development efforts to help plan, coordinate and staff fund-raising events. There will also be opportunities to research grant funding resources and write funding proposals.
