Missouri Local Food Project Public Relations
 
 
 
The Missouri Local Food Production and Education Project is sponsored by the Missouri River Communities Network and includes a broad range of small businesses, non-profit organizations, small farming operations, municipal governments and tourism councils, farmer's markets, university extension, public schools, local restaurants, public housing authority residents, students, and volunteers. The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacity of food producers to grow food locally, help growers find markets for their produce, make connections with institutions, schools, restaurants and stores. The project includes 9 non-profit organizations all working on food production, community outreach and education. Activities include: a garden installation project for public housing residents in Columbia, an urban commercial farm production and education project, capacity building for three non-profit organizations promoting local food production in the Missouri River valley, garden education activities in schools and after school programs, and capacity building for local farmers markets.

Member Duties : Missouri Local Food Public Relations VISTA Member will: Update and/or reorganize the website; Recruit and lead volunteers; Create and publish at least six newsletters per year; Write and distribute press releases; Prepare and perform interviews for television, radio, and newspaper outlets; Create posters for public events; Help organize public events, volunteer workshops, fundraising efforts, board meetings, etc.; Design brochures and/or information booklets; Develop and publish short video pieces for web promotion; Maintain a database of all members, supporters, and volunteers; Establish and update a Facebook account for the Local Food AmeriCorps Project; Establish and update a LinkedIn account for the Local Food AmeriCorps Project; Write and Publish an Annual Report for the sponsoring organization; Research and expand training resources for new volunteers and AmeriCorps members.
