The VT Coalition to End Homelessness mission (www.helpingtohouse.org) is to end homelessness in VT through sharing information, developing resources, and providing a forum for decision making and to promote decent, safe, fair, affordable housing for all. VCEH achieves this mission by-- --Creating a network of organizations, advocates, consumers, concerned citizens & policy makers committed to ending homelessness --Fostering communication & developing collaborative partnerships --Ensuring that all Vermonters, particularly low and moderate income persons, people with disabilities & the homeless have safe, affordable housing --Encouraging resident participation and control --Advocating to preserve existing housing, protect renters & developing new, perpetually affordable housing --Promoting the recognition of housing as a basic right --Acting as a catalyst to explore and develop innovative means to preserve &increase VTs affordable housing stock The VT Affordable Housing Coalition (www.vtaffordablehousing.org) is a statewide membership organization dedicated to ensuring that all Vermonters have decent, safe and affordable housing, particularly the state's low and moderate-income residents, elders, and people with disabilities. VAHCs 80-plus members represent most of VTs non-profit affordable housing developers, housing and homeless advocacy groups, public housing authorities, funders, and other organizations and individuals with an interest in affordable housing. Together, VAHCs members provide housing and services to tens of thousands of Vermonters. The Coalition pursues its mission through five major activities: --Education &advocacy with local, state & federal officials --Outreach & coalition-building among broad interests in the field --Training & workshops for housing professionals --Community education & public relations --Research on affordable housing issues & by serving as an information clearing house

Member Duties : This position will serve the VCEH and VAHC jointly, primarily coordinating communications and outreach for each coalition. The VISTA will -- gather and disseminate information to each coalitions members and the general public; help convene monthly membership meetings; manage electronic, social and print media, including websites and newsletters; attend meetings of allied coalitions and relevant working groups; provide outreach to member organizations and the community at large; provide support to each coalitions Steering Committee; research and write grants to enhance organizational sustainability; organize special events; coordinate activities that increase awareness of housing and homeless needs by publicizing reports; promote best practices by planning conferences and trainings; interface with regional and national partners by attending conferences and trainings; meet requirements of the Vermont Youth Tomorrow program.
