NDMVA believes that education is the fundamental tool in the struggle of the poor for human dignity, self-esteem, and self-determination. NDMVA seeks to build community among its members, as well as the people with whom NDMVA works by reaching out across culture and class. We are committed to helping people help themselves. NDMVA's goal is to promote and encourage education, community empowerment, leadership development, and multicultural harmony. Serving in several educational arrangements and facilities, members: - Assist in classrooms teaching - Assist in tutoring students in schools - Manage, organize, and teach after school enrichment programs for students - Mentor children with incarcerated parents - Facilitate conflict resolution - Build parental involvement through outreach - Teach Adult Education classes for individuals seeking their G.E.D. - Teach English as a Second Language classes and literacy programs - Involve community members in the learning process - Engage in community development and leadership training for community members. Member Duties : Serving in several educational arrangements depending on their site, members may: - Assist in classrooms teaching - Assist in tutoring students in schools - Manage, organize, and teach after school enrichment programs for students - Mentor children with academic, behavioral, social struggles - Facilitate conflict resolution - Build parental involvement through outreach - Teach Adult Education Courses depending on site - Teach English as a Second Language classes and literacy programs - Involve community members in the learning process - Engage in community development and leadership training for community members -Room to incorporate members' own interests into their site (i.e. teaching/coach an extra curricular activity pertaining to their own skill set)
