The Great Strides Rural Education Corps is a Goodwill Industries of NNE AmeriCorps Program which places members in rural Middle and High Schools in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont in order to increase student education attainment through: 1) Mentoring programs and increased mentor relationships, 2) Academic Support, 3) Service Learning opportunities, and 4) Outreach to the community, such as connecting with businesses, other schools, resources. The Great Strides program will seek to increase the number of youth who have improved their school attendance over the course of the AmeriCorps program's involvement with the student, the number of students graduating from high school on time with a diploma and the number of students entering post-secondary institutions. www.goodwillnne.org.The Member will serve as a mentor for at-risk students, having the opportunity to develop relationships and resources within the community which will support these students. Members will create a structure for extended learning opportunities and expanded career awareness. They will participate in a variety of service projects within the community while recruiting volunteers to work alongside them.

Member Duties : Students interested in a hands-on, project-based learning environment attend MeANS from across the state. The Live-in Residential Advisor (RA) mentor non-traditional experiential student in a residential setting. The RA will be trained to implement restorative justice model and will interface with the academic program on a daily basis as well as provide students with transportation to and from required appointments. The RA will live in the student residences, must enjoy teenagers, be a skilled communicator, have a good sense of humor and be able to lift and carry 30lbs occasionally.
