Members service will focus on literacy tutoring, creating youth leadership opportunities, and leading youth and adults in service learning activities. Members will also assist families/individuals with asset building and income supports services. During tax season members will be trained and certify by the IRS to assist community members with tax preparation as part of MAAC's VITA/EITC program. Assignment of positions by location: *East San Diego / Spring Valley at San Martin de Porres Apartments *Central San Diego / Greater Logan Heights at Mercado Apartments *South East San Diego / Oak Park at President John Adams Manor Apt *North Coastal San Diego / Carlsbad at Laurel Tree Apartments *South Bay San Diego / Chula Vista at Seniors on Broadway *Literacy Tutoring: Members will tutor low-income / low-achieving youth, they will emphasize on literacy. *Family Asset Building (VITA Tax Program): Members will provide tax preparation services for low-income families/individuals as part of the IRS's VITA campaign. *Community Strengthening: Members will help to coordinate various community service events. Members will also work to recruit, select, and assign community volunteers for participation in community based organization programs and services, special community service or cultural activities sponsored by operating site. *Member Development: Members will receive training on working with students, youth, and adults. The members will participate in staff meetings and staff development trainings. In addition members will participate in educational exploration opportunities that will include life and social skills training, resume writing, interview techniques, job search assistance, education option, financial literacy or other topics as requested by individual members.
