Literacy Minnesota - VISTA Leaders (LitMN)

Follow your passions and find your purpose! We are seeking a motivated individual who’s ready to think creatively to help fellow AmeriCorps VISTA members across the nation navigate and complete their service. Literacy Minnesota works to build a more equitable society by making quality literacy education available to all. We are a comprehensive literacy resource, providing free classes for adults and children; supporting literacy organizations through volunteer recruitment, training and teaching tools; and creating new pathways for groups and individuals to reach their full potential. Our programs and services are both local to Minnesota and national. We train and place members in Minnesota with two service opportunities: Literacy Leadership and Summer Reads. In Literacy Leadership, about 26 members serve for one year behind-the-scenes in nonprofits, public agencies and Tribal Nations across the nation to build capacity to improve literacy or bridge the digital divide for children, youth, adults or families through two cohorts: a national Digital Literacy track and a Minnesota-focused Literacy for All track. Members create, enhance or expand literacy-focused and programs for low-income, or immigrant or refugee children, youth, adults or families. In Summer Reads, about 70 members serve as children’s literacy mentors for 8 weeks over the summer, bringing literacy to life through fun and enriching activities. *MUST HAVE completed at least one year of full-time national service (full-time AmeriCorps (1700 hours), VISTA, NCCC or Peace Corps) prior to start. *ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: Literacy Leaders receive individual professional development funds, monthly trainings, grocery cards, housing/utilities assistance funds, an Employee Assistance Program and more. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until positions filled, with priority to applications received before 1/12. Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all.
