Rochester Youth Year 16VSA

The Rochester Youth Year Fellowship (RYY) is an AmeriCorps VISTA-sponsored program administered by the Rochester Regional Network (RRN), a consortium of eight area colleges. RYY seeks to alleviate the effects of poverty on youth, strengthen communities, and promote civic engagement and community-centered leadership. Rochester Youth Year will allow you to establish deep roots and form a vast network in the Rochester region. Working with residents, nonprofit organizations, government leaders, and educators, RYY is your chance to engage in the Rochester community and your opportunity to make Rochester a more vibrant city. Because RYY is geographically based in Rochester, members come together for monthly member support meetings, as well as monthly trainings that focus on service-related skills and personal development. We offer a broad network of support through fellow members, staff, the Rochester Regional Network, community partnerships, and an invested network of alumni. RYY placements are within the focus areas of education, healthy futures, and economic opportunity.

Member Duties : Rochester Youth Year members serve at different Rochester-based community agencies, all of which focus on alleviating the effects of poverty for youth and families. The specific nature of service will depend on the host site match, but most RYY VISTA members: recruit and manage volunteers, or create more efficient volunteer management systems; create partnerships with other youth-serving organizations; leverage resources to support programming efforts; create systems for effective outreach; and assess programs.
