Human Rights Initiative - Volunteer Coordinator

Our clients include victims of human rights abuses seeking asylum in the Untied States, trafficking victims, victims of spousal or child abuse at the hands of a U. S. citizen or Permanent Resident, or immigrant children that have been abused, abandoned or neglected by their family in the U.S. These are individuals who have suffered persecution in their homeland for exercising the very freedoms that we take for granted: freedom of speech, of religious practice, of political belief, of gender roles. Our Volunteer Coordinator will manage and maintain a Volunteer Program to recruit, train, engage and retain volunteers. The candidate will be responsible for the recruitment, training and appreciation of HRI volunteers, along with planning multiple events such as CLEs, seminars and Pro Bono Committee luncheons. The Volunteer Coordinator will engage in outreach activities to raise awareness and encourage participation in HRIs programs by potential volunteers, and assist with special events and fund raising as needed. Our Volunteer Coordinator should have a passion for human rights, a strong sense of volunteerism, great organizational and computer skills, and excellent writing skills. Bilingual preferred. Member Duties Responsible for recruitment and retention of volunteers; including email, telephone and mailed correspondence to current and potential volunteers. Assist in the identification, screening, acceptance and scheduling of potential volunteers and interns. Provide training and mentorship of volunteers. Provide assistance to clients in order to facilitate their representation by HRIs volunteer attorneys and coordinate those relationships. Participate in community outreach activities and volunteer fairs. Maintain volunteer database to track volunteers and number of hours donated. Generate email updates to volunteers through Constant Contact. Assist with special events and fund raising duties as needed. Will also work towards creating sustainable plans.
