DPI Service for Learning and Life

Minimum-time (MT) AmeriCorps members work 300 hours within a 5-month period (beginning in April, May, or June 2014). With the support of their host site, they are expected to meet the following grant performance measures: Coordinate youth community service projects in partnership with community- or faith-based organizations; Tutor students in need of extra help; Recruit and manage volunteers for tutoring and civic engagement activities. Minimum-time members receive approximately no stipend. However, upon successful completion of service, minimum-time members will receive an education award with a value of approximately $1175. The education award may be used to pay off qualified student loans or to pay tuition at a qualified institution of higher learning. A member who is at least 55 at the time of enrollment may transfer the education award to a child, grandchild, or foster child. Members are also eligible for forbearance of any qualified student loan during the term of service and payment of the interest accrued on those loans while in service.
