City of Kirkland Emergency Management
 
 
 
The City of Kirkland Office of Emergency Management is a lead in promoting a community that is prepared to effectively respond and ready to recover from any disaster situation. The mission is to create and sustain partnerships that encourage emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. The primary service activity is Community Preparedness Education; educating the public on emergency preparedness activities that will help them to be sustainable during a disaster. To include: individuals, families, neighborhoods, businesses, schools, non-government organizations. The Vista volunteer will be focusing on public preparedness education projects. Specifically they will be working with volunteer groups to teach Map-your Neighborhood and then following through with the volunteers to make sure they are mapping their neighborhood. The volunteer will need to track progress and neighborhoods that have been mapped. They will be helping promote, coordinate and assist with running a CERT class. They will assist with ARES - Volunteer Ham radio club. Also be involved in community education events throughout the City. It is very important that the Kirkland partner with the community to become a resilient City. This will take using education campaigns to promote prevention, preparedness and assistance in response and recovery in the community. This includes partnering with citizens, business, and non-government organizations.

Member Duties : Primary duties will be public preparedness education projects Teach community members to lead Map-your Neighborhood. Track locations of mapped neighborhoods, report on activity Coordinate a Fall CERT class Promote, get supplies, coordinate instructors, dates, time, location Public Outreach and Education Coordinate, organize and staff five City-wide Community Fairs/Presentations promoting Emergency Preparedness. Website: Ensure we have the most current information possible on our website and assist with preparing information for posting to it. Meet face to face with community members to ensure those interested receive needed materials and obtain whatever assistance they may need in furthering our goal of community education and readiness. Assist with ARES Work with Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and ARES to develop a plan to promote membership and help with coordination activities and attend monthly meetings.
