FIRST 5 Mendocino Literacy Coordinator

The VISTA will serve as the Imagination Library Coordinator for Mendocino County. Imagination Library is a free book program where a child receives a book in the mail each month until they turn 5. The VISTA shall help achieve FIRST 5 Mendocino's goals that every child 0 to 5 in Mendocino County is ready to learn upon entering kindergarten by increasing the number of books in the home and the amount of time parents read to their children. This is the third year of the literacy program helping parents embrace family literacy practices and establish reading routines through preschools, libraries and other partners. The VISTA will continue to ensure the Imagination Library has sustainable funding sources so that all children in Mendocino County can continue to utilize this community program. Upon achieving these outcomes, the VISTA will then outreach to the community with the goal of every child 0-5 in Mendocino County is enrolled in the Imagination Library. To transfer this position to be managed by volunteers, the VISTA will also assist in identifying and training potential volunteer(s) to take over these responsibilities.
