For over 62 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento Area (BBBSGSA) has helped children and youth realize their full potential through the power of mentoring. Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Serving 10 counties across the Greater Sacramento region, BBBSGSA partners with schools, businesses, colleges, and community organizations to expand mentoring opportunities for young people facing adversity. Through school-based, community-based, workplace, and career readiness programs, BBBSGSA helps youth strengthen academic engagement, develop social-emotional skills, build confidence, and prepare for postsecondary education, careers, and lifelong success. Many of the youth served by BBBSGSA come from low-income communities and face barriers including limited access to educational resources, career networks, workforce opportunities, and supportive adult relationships that can affect long-term economic mobility. BBBSGSA recognizes that mentoring is one piece of a broader ecosystem of support needed for young people to thrive. By collaborating with schools, employers, and community partners, the organization increases access to educational opportunities, career exploration, workforce development experiences, and supportive relationships that contribute to stronger academic outcomes and economic mobility. By strengthening sustainable fundraising, sponsorship, and partnership systems, the AmeriCorps VISTA member will increase BBBSGSA's organizational capacity to expand mentoring and career-readiness opportunities for youth and families experiencing economic hardship. As the need for youth mentoring grows, BBBSGSA is committed to expanding its reach through partnerships, volunteer engagement, and sustainable funding. Using data-informed practices and stakeholder feedback, BBBSGSA continues to strengthen its impact and ensure more young people achieve their full potential.
