Concho Valley Disaster Recovery & Resiliency VISTA

The Concho Valley Together Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) falls under the San Angelo Area COAD. The San Angelo Area COAD was formed in 2021 and reinvigorated in fall 2023, with a mission to strengthen community resiliency and prepare local organizations to respond to disasters. In the aftermath of the July 4th disaster, our Long-Term Recovery Group continues to conduct unmet needs assessments and has identified significant needs across the community that exceed existing local resources. The disaster created long-lasting impacts across our county, and the need for long-term recovery services continues to grow. Over 2000 households were impacted in the July 4th flooding in the Concho Valley with the majority of those being in the San Angelo area. Due to the areas affected by the Concho Valley the majority of clients being served are low income and fall into at least one other vulnerable population if not more. The median income of clients is $47,000, which falls below the median average of the area by $20,000. 61% of affected households report to have a disability or a need for disability assistance. 50% of households affected are either owned by or have a person over the age of 60 in the home. 600+ children under the age of 18 have been identified so far as part of survivors through Case Management. The VISTA will create policies and procedures to ensure sustainability of the long-term recovery group so they are prepared to respond to future disasters.
