I Have a Dream/AmeriCorps - Parent

Members support the "I Have A Dream" Foundation's long-term, whole-child program, which helps young people from low-income communities succeed in school, graduate from high school, pursue postsecondary education, and prepare for meaningful careers. Working alongside Program Directors, Members help deliver year-round, evidence-informed programming that addresses Dream Scholars' academic, social-emotional, college and career readiness, and family engagement needs. Members build trusted relationships with an assigned caseload of approximately 15–25 Dream Scholars, providing individualized mentoring, encouragement, and guidance while serving as positive role models. They assist with planning and leading in-school and after-school activities, facilitate small-group lessons and enrichment opportunities, provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring, and support classroom instruction by working alongside teachers to meet students' academic and developmental needs. Members also help strengthen family partnerships by supporting parent workshops, engagement activities, and ongoing communication with caregivers. They collaborate with school staff, community organizations, volunteers, and mentors to connect students and families with additional resources and opportunities. To prepare Dream Scholars for life beyond school, Members help coordinate college and career exploration activities, workforce readiness programming, and educational field trips that expose students to new experiences and future possibilities. Members document student participation, academic progress, attendance, interventions, and family engagement to support individualized services and continuous program improvement. By providing consistent academic support, caring relationships, and resources, Members play an essential role in helping Dream Scholars build the skills, confidence, and support networks needed to thrive in school, pursue postsecondary education, and achieve lifelong success.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps Members support Dream Scholars and their families by assisting the Program Director in planning and delivering year-round academic, social-emotional, college and career readiness, and family engagement programming. Members mentor an assigned caseload of 15–25 students, providing individualized guidance, tutoring, and encouragement while serving as positive role models. Responsibilities include leading group activities and enrichment sessions, supporting classroom instruction during the school day, coordinating volunteers, organizing educational field trips, and fostering parent engagement through workshops and events. Members collaborate with school staff and community partners, help develop career exploration and workforce readiness opportunities, and maintain accurate student records, including academic progress, attendance, participation, interventions, and family engagement to support student success.
