MPC: Communications Coordinator VISTA

Meals Partnership Coalition (MPC) provides a regular food distribution service to our 56 member organizations, as well as funding and technical support. Our members strive to create nutritionally dense, culturally uplifting ready to eat food for communities facing food insecurity in King County. Our members collectively produce between 4.5 to 5 millions meals annually, the majority of which are served to people experiencing homelessness. MPC sources food and supplies to offset the costs of our member operations, and also administers public funding to our members who are based in the City of Seattle. By providing food donations, direct funding and capacity support like food safety training, MPC seeks to provide support to meal providers that do not receive any assistance from the State or Federal government. The goal of this project is to develop a comprehensive, multi-media communications guide to help current and future MPC staff message the value of coalition work to the community. In this position, Meals Partnerships Coalition partners with Harvest Against Hunger through the Harvest VISTA Program, an incubator and catalyst for strengthening local food systems that places AmeriCorps Volunteers with community-based organizations to build sustainable food security programs. They support produce recovery and gleaning initiatives by engaging farmers, strengthening volunteer recruitment systems, and improving tools for program evaluation and communications. Their work helps strengthen existing efforts while also developing new approaches that build more resilient, community-driven food systems. Through a one-year service term, they receive professional development, mentorship, and participation in a nationwide cohort, while building organizational capacity and supporting long-term solutions to food insecurity.
