Stewards VISTA: Western Slope Conservation Center

The Western Slope Conservation Center (WSCC) is a nonprofit organization celebrating nearly 50 years of protecting the lands, air, water, and wildlife of western Colorado. Through conservation, education, and community engagement, WSCC works to build resilient communities while supporting the region's economy and quality of life. Located in Paonia in Colorado's North Fork Valley, WSCC serves a vibrant rural community known for its agricultural and mining heritage, thriving arts scene, and abundant outdoor recreation. Members enjoy easy access to public lands, a welcoming small-town atmosphere, and the opportunity to make a visible local impact. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will strengthen WSCC's capacity by supporting environmental stewardship initiatives, developing grants and fundraising strategies, expanding community partnership strategies, and building sustainable volunteer systems. The member will also develop resources for staff to use with outreach and educational activities that connect residents with conservation projects and skill-building opportunities. We are seeking a self-motivated, organized individual with strong communication and writing skills, an interest in conservation or nonprofit management, and a passion for community engagement. Members will gain valuable experience in grant writing, fundraising, volunteer management, partnership development, and environmental education. To learn more, contact Stewards Individual Placements.
