26-27 Mediation Specialist - Asheville, NC

The mission of The Mediation Center is to create opportunity from conflict. Founded in 1984 to serve Buncombe County, NC, The Mediation Center joined with the community mediation centers serving Henderson, Polk, and Transylvania Counties in 2011 to form a regional organization. The Mediation Center provides voluntary, non-judgmental, and confidential mediation of interpersonal conflicts to families, neighbors, co-workers, and other members of the community. Community mediation services are free. - - - Community mediation services reduce violence and improve relationships among community members, with a focus on helping people "get unstuck" from difficult and stressful conflicts through collaborative conversations that emphasize the underlying interests and values of each person. - - - Since Hurricane Helene, The Mediation Center has engaged in specific outreach to help people with resulting community conflicts, including those involving shared housing, debris clean-up, repair and replacement of shared resources, and essential infrastructure such as private bridges, roads, driveways, and wells. The Mediation Center has also seen increased demand from churches and community groups seeking assistance with plans and decisions about how to recover and adapt.
