26-27 Special Olympics DC Development Associate VISTA

Special Olympics DC empowers individuals with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and athletic competition, fostering inclusion, confidence, and joy. Our mission is to transform lives by providing athletes of all abilities the chance to discover new strengths, celebrate achievements, and experience the power of sport. We serve the Washington, D.C. community — one of the most diverse urban populations in the nation — supporting over 1,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities across all ages and ability levels. Our programs are entirely free to participants, removing barriers to access for underserved families throughout all eight wards of the District. A growing priority for Special Olympics DC is building sustainable fundraising capacity to ensure our programs remain free and accessible for years to come. The VISTA will play a critical role in developing donor outreach strategies, identifying new corporate sponsors, supporting peer-to-peer fundraising events, and creating systems that strengthen our long-term financial foundation — directly enabling more athletes to participate. We are seeking a mission-driven VISTA with strengths in fundraising, community outreach, and volunteer recruitment. The VISTA will help expand our capacity by building volunteer pipelines, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting athlete recruitment in underserved neighborhoods. Joining Special Olympics DC means becoming part of a movement — not just an organization. Staff, volunteers, and VISTAs are united by genuine purpose. You'll gain hands-on nonprofit experience, professional development opportunities, and the reward of seeing your work directly change lives. Special Olympics DC offers a collaborative, inclusive workplace where every contribution matters and every athlete's win is a shared victory.

Member Duties : The Special Olympics DC VISTA will be part of the 26-27 Coach Across America nationwide cohort of 64 members. First, the VISTA will build a pipeline of 150+ DC-based corporate sponsor prospects — researching company alignment, customizing outreach materials, sending 5+ emails weekly, and tracking all activity in the CRM to secure at least 2 new sponsorships per month. Second, the VISTA will drive a 15% increase in participation for the Run for Inclusion 5K and Polar Plunge by identifying new corporate teams, run clubs, and community groups, then stewarding them from prospect to registered participant. Third, the VISTA will develop peer-to-peer fundraising toolkits, co-create campaign timelines with staff, and draft targeted email content to boost special events revenue by 10%. Finally, the VISTA will lead athlete recruitment outreach — attending community events and partnering with providers to grow athlete registration by 15%.
