Medical Reserve Corps Outreach and Support VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team at North Central Public Health District (NCPHD) NCPHD is the only two-county local health department in Oregon. We serve Wasco and Sherman Counties, which are rural/frontier/low-income counties in the Columbia River Gorge area. NCPHD leads and inspires our community in the creation of an equitable, safe, and healthy environment. NCPHD manages the Wasco Co. Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). Wasco County MRC is part of a nationwide network of locally based volunteer units that train and prepare community members to help with disaster response when emergency personnel need additional resources. MRC members can also volunteer in the community in non-disaster times. Nestled along the stunning Columbia River Gorge, The Dalles, Oregon offers breathtaking scenery, endless outdoor recreation, and over 300 days of sunshine a year. With its welcoming small-town charm, thriving local wineries, and easy access to hiking, windsurfing, and skiing, it’s the perfect place to enjoy adventure and community in one beautiful setting. In addition to activities at your individual host site, OHA provides members with project orientation, training and professional development, 5 in-person team meetings per year, and support from VISTA team leaders and project director. Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will: Organize the Wasco Co. Medical Reserve Corps volunteer database; develop clear processes for staff to communicate with volunteers and activate the MRC; Conduct a needs assessment of MRC volunteers to identify gaps in the new state software; Increase retention and reengage the MRC volunteers through systematic improvement of deployment processes; Develop SOPs for the MRC's role and practices for locally relevant hazard-specific events; and Partner with the State Managed Volunteer Pool for exercise and outreach support to better reach low-income communities. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve Oregonians through indirect service and capacity building, meaning the work you will do is the behind-the-scenes work. You will primarily serve in a professional office, with some opportunity to work remotely. Applicants should be independent, reliable, and skilled in writing, intercultural communication, MS Office, project planning, and volunteer organizing.
