26-27 Girls on the Run Program Optimization VISTA

Girls on the Run of the Bay Area (GOTRBA) is a nonprofit that inspires girls in grades 3–8 to be joyful, healthy, and confident through a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Each year, we serve over 2,000 girls across five Bay Area counties through after-school programs that build critical life skills like confidence, teamwork, and goal-setting—all culminating in a celebratory 5K. We provide sliding-scale fees, offer programs in under-resourced communities, and aim to ensure every girl has the opportunity to participate regardless of financial or geographic barriers. The Program VISTA will play a key role in expanding GOTRBA’s reach by developing outreach materials, supporting recruitment campaigns, and building connections with schools, parks, and community-based organizations. This is a highly collaborative and creative role that blends communications, research, relationship-building, and strategy. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and excited about creating inclusive systems that help more families learn about and access our programs. If you enjoy storytelling, community engagement, and making a lasting impact in youth development, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to something meaningful while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit outreach and program growth. As a VISTA member, you’ll work with a small, passionate team and leave behind a lasting infrastructure for recruitment and awareness—ensuring more girls across the Bay Area can benefit from our life-changing programs.

Member Duties : The VISTA will serve as part of the 26-27 Coach Across America national cohort of 64 members. The Programs VISTA will focus on building and strengthening outreach and recruitment systems that help expand access across the Bay Area. Throughout their term, they will research and identify new schools, prioritize outreach efforts, and build relationships with school leaders and community partners to bring the program to more sites. They will create outreach processes, including tracking systems for school engagement, and develop inclusive, adaptable marketing materials for use across social media, events, and school communications. In addition, the VISTA will analyze recruitment data to identify gaps and opportunities, contribute to pilot expansion efforts, and document best practices. By the end of their service, they will produce a comprehensive recruitment playbook and establish sustainable systems and tools that support long-term program growth and awareness.
