2026 Ohana of Howard County Volunteer Engagement

Be the force behind a growing mentor movement, building a pipeline of caring volunteers to support underrepresented youth, expanding opportunity, strengthening community connections, and creating lasting pathways to success. Through its “Village” mentoring model, each student is supported by a team of trained mentors who guide academics, social-emotional development, and post-secondary planning. This team-based approach ensures consistency, reduces mentor burnout, and creates a network of support that extends beyond traditional one-to-one mentoring. Youth participate in weekly after-school clubs, skill-building workshops, and community-based experiences that create belonging, confidence, and goal setting. The proposed project, Expanding Volunteer Engagement for Youth Success, strengthens OhanaHC’s capacity to recruit, train, and retain a diverse pipeline of mentors. By addressing gaps in social capital and access to supportive relationships, this project tackles poverty at its root—expanding opportunity, strengthening community connections, and improving long-term educational and career outcomes for youth. Ultimately, OhanaHC will increase the number of young people supported by consistent, caring adults, positioning them for success in school, work, and life.

Member Duties : The VISTA will design and implement a comprehensive volunteer recruitment strategy to expand and diversify OhanaHC’s volunteer pipeline.
