2026 Brooklyn Park OST Capacity VISTA

The Brooklyn Park Out-of-School Time (OST) Capacity Project, is a high-impact strategic initiative that is part of an ENOUGH initiative designed to dismantle the systemic barriers facing the Pumphrey and Brooklyn Park communities. The "ENOUGH" initiative, is a state initiative to address extreme academic and economic disparities in targeted communities across the state. The data in this corridor is a call to action: with 40.1 % of children living below the poverty line and academic proficiency rates as low as 13% in English and 14.5% in Math, the need for structured, professional support is urgent. While the community is rich in cultural history and resilience, it lacks the administrative framework to provide youth with a safe, high-quality environment during the critical out-of-school hours. By bridging the gap between community assets and professional resources, you will ensure that the youth of Pumphrey finally receive the high-quality, trauma-informed enrichment they deserve. This is a unique opportunity to build a lasting legacy of equity and opportunity for an underserved community.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will build the capacity of the Brooklyn Park OST Project through four key pillars: 1. Resource Development: Identify and research a 24-month pipeline of federal, state, and private grants to secure long-term contract capital. 2. Infrastructure Design: Create "Facility Use Toolkits," including MOUs and Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Lloyd Keaser Center and Patapsco Park. 3. Systems Building: Formalize a "Volunteer Registry" to leverage local expertise and reduce future labor costs. 4.
