Stewards VISTA: Digital Mobilization Coordinator EPCAMR P2Y1

The Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR) is a nonprofit organization focused on reclaiming abandoned mine lands, restoring watersheds impacted by acid mine drainage, and advancing environmental education across the Northern Anthracite Coal Region. For more than 30 years, EPCAMR has worked to address legacy mining impacts through research, monitoring, and capacity-building initiatives. Rural and post-industrial communities in this region face persistent poverty, environmental degradation, and limited economic opportunity. Strengthening systems that support environmental restoration and public understanding contribute to improved community conditions, workforce pathways, and long-term regional stability. This AmeriCorps VISTA project builds organizational capacity by developing internal communications, branding, and information-management systems for EPCAMR’s programs. The VISTA will design and document staff-facing tools such as communication templates, branding standards, content organization systems, and messaging frameworks. This will break the cycle of poverty by supporting environmental restoration efforts that improve community livability and long-term economic resilience. Ideal candidates have strong writing, organization, research, or creative communication skills and an interest in environmental stewardship or nonprofit capacity building. This position offers hands-on learning in systems development, strategic communications, and organizational planning, along with access to AmeriCorps VISTA professional development resources. For those relocating, northeastern Pennsylvania offers a low cost of living, access to outdoor recreation, and the opportunity to serve in Appalachian communities where restoration efforts have a visible impact. Staff will use the systems developed during the VISTA term to sustain communications and engagement beyond the year of service.
