2026 Northwest Center | Housing Action Corps | Senior Center

The Kelvyn Park Senior Center VISTA will serve with the Northwest Center in Chicago, IL, from September 2026-2027. The Northwest Center (NWC) is part of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. The NWC is a community-based nonprofit organization that engages, educates, and empowers the community to improve the quality of life for all, particularly in Belmont Cragin and surrounding communities. We accomplish our mission through housing counseling, financial education, community organizing, outreach, advocacy, and supportive services. We also operate the Kelvyn Park Senior Center (KPSC) which has over 1,100 registered members. This position will design and coordinate two programs to help older adults improve social determinants of health (e.g. financial health, mental wellness, social/emotional interaction, digital literacy, etc.). They will design and coordinate the “Ready, Set, Live” digital literacy program, as well as the “Bridge Builders” self-empowerment and cultural sharing program. This includes creating curriculum, recruiting participants, tracking attendance and outcomes, and developing progress reports. Our ideal candidate is interested in community service with older adults and bilingual in Spanish and English. Experience with data entry, curriculum design, and outreach with older adults is highly desired for this role! Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to helping low-income individuals improve their quality of life.

Member Duties : Digital literacy, social connection, and access to health information are key determinants of well-being for seniors. The KPSC serves as a hub for healthy aging, but we need a dedicated VISTA to pilot new programs and increase access to NWC services that will build a more empowered, connected, and economically stable senior community. The KPSC VISTA will develop, launch, and evaluate two cohorts of a digital literacy and life enrichment program, while also planning and implementing a weekly self-empowerment and cultural sharing program. This includes developing curriculum, event calendars, promotional materials, outreach strategies, tracking systems, and reports that capture impact and progress. They will also maintain and enhance our Older Adults Data Dashboard to analyze and measure outcomes.
