2026 Summer Associates- Elev8 Freedom School

The Freedom School Summer Program at Elev8 Baltimore is a culturally responsive summer learning experience focused on literacy, youth leadership, and community building. Rooted in the seven principles of Kwanzaa (Nguzo Saba), the program supports elementary and middle school students through engaging literacy instruction, enrichment activities, and opportunities to explore identity, collective responsibility, and leadership. The VISTA Learning Coach plays a key capacity-building role by supporting program preparation, implementation, and closeout. During training, the VISTA builds knowledge of the Freedom School model, positive youth engagement, social emotional learning, and family engagement strategies. Throughout the five-week summer program, the VISTA supports literacy and enrichment activities, facilitates small-group discussions, and helps implement interactive, culturally affirming learning experiences. The service term culminates in a final Freedom School project and community service activity. In the final week, the VISTA contributes to program closeout by assisting with student data collection, end-of-program documentation, and staff reflection and planning. These efforts help Elev8 Baltimore strengthen future Freedom School programming and school-year extended learning opportunities. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to support youth development, strengthen community-centered education, and build sustainable program practices that extend beyond a single summer.
