2026 Summer Associate- Youth Program with Girl Scouts
 
 
 
This role offers a dynamic, hands-on experience that blends direct youth engagement with program development in a nonprofit setting. During the first half of the program, the AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will serve at our overnight summer camp (Conowingo) after completing Girl Scout training. In this role, they will lead and facilitate activities such as nature exploration, arts and crafts, STEM programming, sports, etc. They will support campers with daily routines, foster a safe and inclusive environment, and contribute to building a positive and supportive camp community. Housing available (optional) during the camp portion. As part of this experience, the associate will develop and pilot at least one new youth program or camp activity that can be used in future Girl Scout programs. To accomplish this, they will observe current programming, research best practices, draft a plan, test it with participants, gather feedback, and document the final activity for future use. During the second half of the term, the associate will transition to a program-focused role at the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland headquarters (Baltimore City). In this phase, they will assist with program planning, curriculum development, logistics coordination, and member recruitment and retention efforts. There may also be opportunities to support the on-site execution of Girl Scout programs and events. This position provides valuable, hands-on experience in youth development, program design, nonprofit operations, and community engagement. This is a unique opportunity to spend part of your summer outdoors at camp while also gaining professional experience in a nonprofit office setting. No two days are the same—from leading camp activities to helping design impactful programs for youth. This position is from June 15th to August 9th.

Member Duties : Camp-Based Responsibilities (First Half of Term): Lead and facilitate youth activities including arts & crafts, STEM, nature exploration, and sports. Support campers with daily routines and transitions. Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive camp community. Assist with program setup and cleanup as needed. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions. Optional: live on-site during the residential camp portion; meals will also be provided during this portion of the program. Program & Headquarters Responsibilities (Second Half of Term): Assist with program planning and curriculum development. Coordinate logistics for events and activities. Support recruitment and retention of Girl Scout members. Contribute to the execution of Girl Scout programs and events on-site. Provide general support to the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland staff team. Collaborate with staff to evaluate and improve programs.
