2026 LakeMcHenryHFH | Housing Action Corps | Outreach
 
 
 
The Operations Outreach VISTA will serve with Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity in McHenry, IL from September 2026-2027. Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity is part of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity is driven by the belief that everyone deserves a place to call home. We serve families across Lake and McHenry Counties by building safe, affordable homes, preserving existing housing through repairs, and advocating for long-term stability. Since its founding in 1989, the organization has built over 200 homes for neighbors in the community, partnering with volunteers and future homeowners to increase economic stability and improve quality of life. The Operations Outreach VISTA will document, enhance, and systematize our internal processes for community outreach and engagement. They will improve our outreach follow-up, tracking, and reporting systems, as well as support leadership in resolving workflow inefficiencies or capacity gaps. Our ideal candidate is a dynamic, process-oriented individual who enjoys creating clarity, structure, and efficiency within complex systems. They should be comfortable working independently and excited to develop tools that help departments work more smoothly together. Candidates should demonstrate strong skills in communication and information management, as well as an interest in nonprofit operations, project management, and teamwork. Experience in project management, process mapping, developing templates, and data organization would be especially valuable!

Member Duties : By expanding access to affordable housing and critical repairs, Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity helps families achieve financial stability and builds stronger, healthier communities. To ensure residents across two counties can access our critical programs and services, we need more sustainable organizational systems and community outreach processes. The Operations Outreach VISTA will document and refine all outreach workflows–including events, partnerships, and interdepartmental communications–to reduce operational friction and implement sustainable solutions. The VISTA will document key processes, resources, and best practices across outreach and operations; develop a shared digital repository accessible to all staff; and collaborate with leadership to reduce workflow inefficiencies. They will also create templates and SOPs to streamline data organization and reporting.
