Summer Associate - MCNCE New Student Success Program Mentor

It is the mission of the Native American Achievement Center to help recruit, empower, and retain American Indian students at Montana State University Billings. The office serves as an advocate for students pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities at MSU Billings, extension services, and City College by providing academic and student support to students while encouraging their individual, social, cultural, and emotional growth. The goal of the project is to alleviate poverty by supporting student success by helping incoming and prospective students navigate the transition to college. This project includes supporting Native students that also potentially identify as low-income and first-generation college students with campus tours, mentorship, orientation assistance, and introducing them to key resources to support college exploration and/or enrollment. This project will assist in long-term economic mobility and breaks intergenerational poverty. This includes assisting with enrollment steps like FAFSA and registration and connecting students to campus resources and community. Through outreach, engagement, and relationship-building, the position will help students feel welcomed, supported, and prepared to succeed at MSU Billings. Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders.
