2026 NeighborScapes | Housing Action Corps | Outreach

The Community Partnerships & Impact VISTA will serve with NeighborScapes in Homewood and Tinley Park, IL, from September 2026-2027. NeighborScapes is part of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. NeighborScapes’ mission is to strengthen the physical and social fabric of neighborhoods through the provision and management of safe, decent, and affordable housing for persons of low- and moderate-income; and to create a covenant of care, enrichment and development for young people through meaningful service, community development, and empowering opportunities. The Community Partnerships & Impact VISTA will collaborate with the South Suburban Land Bank and Development Authority (SSLBDA) to develop and launch a resource website that expands access to housing services. They will also enhance our annual community events and build our organizational and pattern capacity through research, reporting, and coordination. Our ideal candidate is an outgoing, self-motivated individual with strong communication and writing skills who is comfortable representing NeighborScapes in meetings, events, and community settings. They should be organized, action-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Experience or interest in housing justice, community development, research, or nonprofit operations is strongly preferred, along with the ability to build relationships, synthesize information, and follow projects through to completion.

Member Duties : Many families in Chicago’s South Side and south suburbs face barriers to housing stability due to fragmented access to resources and limited coordination among service providers. The Community Partnerships & Impact VISTA will streamline and expand access to resources by developing a public-facing website, enhancing data and internal systems, and coordinating an annual community event. The VISTA will establish repeatable infrastructure for our annual event by documenting systems, strengthening partner engagement, and expanding outreach and sponsorship strategies. They will enhance NeighborScapes and SSLBDA’s internal systems through applied research, data visualization, impact reporting, and inter-agency coordination. Additionally, they will lead the launch and operationalization of a resource website that ensures residents and partner organizations will have sustained access to housing resources.
