Stream Teams United: Heartland Conservation Alliance VISTA
 
 
 
The Heartland Conservation Alliance works with partners to protect, connect, and restore the Blue River watershed and its urban greenspaces for the benefit and enjoyment of all. The AmeriCorps member at this site would work to increase capacity and reach of programs that support the health of low-income residents and improves environmental quality of neighborhoods in the Kansas City region. The member will work to connect low-income community members, with a focus on low-income youth, to nature and hands-on training to improve the quality of community green spaces in Kansas City. The member will work on expanding reach of existing programs and assist with capacity development activities for long term sustainability of organization efforts to improve environmental quality of low income communities in the service area.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member serving at this site will assist the hosting site, Heartland Conservation Alliance, with increasing reach of programs to improve environmental quality of low income neighborhoods and providing opportunities for low income youth to receive nature based education and training in the Blue River Watershed of Kansas City, MO. The AmeriCorps member at this site will assist with volunteer recruitment, marketing, and developing funding sources that support long-term stewardship and community sustainability efforts in the service area. The member will increase reach of programs that provide education and training to low-income youth on environmental quality and hands-on skills for nature based stewardship projects.
