Summer Associate - MCNCE Student Support Specialist

Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) was established in 1967 as a result of collaborative efforts by local citizens supporting area students and employers by providing higher education without leaving the valley. FVCC promotes excellence in lifelong learning, focused on student success and community needs. The Flathead Valley Community College VISTA Summer Associate project supports the college’s mission of student success and access to education by addressing students’ basic needs and expanding awareness of support programs. By reducing barriers such as food insecurity and increasing engagement with TRIO services, the project advances FVCC’s vision of fostering equity, opportunity, and meaningful community impact. This project alleviates poverty by reducing immediate barriers to student success, including food insecurity and lack of access to essential resources, allowing students to focus on their education. By strengthening support systems, increasing awareness of programs like TRIO, and improving resource navigation, the project helps more students persist and complete their education. In the long term, increased degree attainment leads to greater employment opportunities, higher earning potential, and improved economic mobility for students and their families, while also strengthening the local community. Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) serves as the intermediary for this project. MCNCE is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to fostering civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across Montana. Led by CEOs from participating institutions, MCNCE works to improve community life and educate students on civic and social responsibility, preparing them to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged leaders.
