NAMI South Central Outreach & Development VISTA

The NAMI South Central Iowa AmeriCorps VISTA will build the organization’s capacity to reduce poverty-related barriers to mental health care across 11 rural counties. By strengthening outreach, the VISTA will identify underserved communities, develop targeted strategies, and build partnerships with local organizations and schools to ensure individuals with limited resources can access free mental health education and support. The VISTA will also expand sustainable funding by researching, writing, and tracking grant proposals, helping NAMI grow programs, improve volunteer systems, and strengthen community engagement. Through these combined efforts, the VISTA will create lasting systems that increase access, remove cost and awareness barriers, and promote long-term community wellness.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will play a key role in expanding NAMI South Central Iowa’s impact by identifying underserved communities and creating strategic outreach efforts that increase access to mental health support. They will build meaningful partnerships with local organizations and schools, strengthening connections that extend NAMI’s reach across 11 counties. The VISTA will research, develop, and write grant proposals that secure sustainable funding, while tracking progress to support long-term growth. Through community engagement and relationship-building, the VISTA will connect residents to free mental health education, programs, and support groups. Their work will expand program access, grow volunteer and community networks, and build durable systems that ensure NAMI can continue delivering essential mental health services well into the future.
