PHENND Fellows:Development and Sustainability Coordinator

Body Empowerment Project (BEP) is a prevention-focused youth mental health program that addresses eating disorder risk, poor self-esteem, and negative body image through culturally responsive, school-based education. Thirteen percent of U.S. youth will develop an eating disorder by age 20, yet accessible prevention efforts remain limited—particularly in underserved communities where care is often reactive and difficult to access. Developed in collaboration with pediatric eating disorder experts, BEP’s Flagship Youth Program is a 10-week longitudinal intervention designed to reduce risk factors like body image dissatisfaction and strengthen protective factors, including body appreciation, coping skills, and peer connection. The curriculum integrates trauma-informed, cognitive-behavioral, and social justice frameworks, and is delivered by trained near-peer mentors (ages 18–25) whose lived experiences reflect the identities of participating students. The program equips youth with practical skills, supportive relationships, and inclusive learning spaces that promote mental health, confidence, and belonging.

Member Duties : The PHENND Fellow will strengthen the long-term sustainability of Body Empowerment Project by building fundraising and earned revenue systems that expand access to free youth mental health programming. The Fellow will conduct an audit of current development practices, gather input from students and community stakeholders, and develop tools to improve donor engagement and outreach. They will help formalize a fee-for-service model by analyzing pilot programs, creating service packages, and supporting outreach to new partners. Additional responsibilities include developing donor-facing media, assisting with fundraising campaigns and events, and helping launch a student ambassador initiative to support community-centered storytelling. Through this role, the Fellow will strengthen skills in nonprofit development, communications, project management, and equity-driven program growth while taking ownership of systems that support long-term organizational sustainability.
