Summer Associate - NAMI Southwest Iowa Peer Support VISTA

NAMI Southwest Iowa provides peer-led mental health education, recovery support, and navigation services across nine rural counties. As demand for peer support and opioid recovery services grows, the organization is strengthening internal systems that allow programs to expand while maintaining accurate reporting, funding development, and operational coordination. The Summer VISTA member will support development of sustainable infrastructure for NAMI Southwest Iowa’s peer support programming, including the ReConnect education program and one-to-one peer support services connected to opioid recovery and reentry. The member will assist with implementing BeePurple as the organization’s centralized data platform for tracking peer support services. This includes preparing the system for use, organizing existing program records, and migrating historical program data into the platform to support long-term evaluation and reporting. The Summer VISTA will complete several defined infrastructure projects including historical program data migration into BeePurple, development of a funding research database focused on opioid settlement opportunities, and creation of a centralized digital resource library for program and grant materials. Additional work includes helping design a calendar coordination structure that reduces duplicate scheduling and data entry across internal staff systems and public-facing program calendars. These activities strengthen NAMI Southwest Iowa’s long-term capacity to track outcomes, pursue funding opportunities, and coordinate services for individuals living with mental illness and substance use challenges in rural communities.
