Children's Hunger Alliance - Volunteer and Development VISTA

Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA) is a statewide nonprofit organization working to reduce childhood hunger and its long-term impacts on health, education, and economic stability. CHA helps children reach their full potential by providing access to nutritious meals and food education through early childcare providers, schools, afterschool programs, and weekend and summer meal programs across Ohio. Our vision is a future where all children have the food and knowledge they need to thrive. CHA is a collaborative, curiosity-driven workplace where learning and professional growth are encouraged. VISTA members are fully integrated into the organization and supported through mentorship, training, and cross-department collaboration. Members have opportunities to meet and interview staff across programs to learn how CHA operates, engages donors and volunteers, and works with elected officials. VISTA members are invited to attend special events as guests and participate in an end-of-year staff retreat. The office offers free parking, on-site lunch facilities, specialty coffee and tea, and monthly staff breakfast breaks. This VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) focuses on capacity building to address the root causes of hunger and poverty. The VISTA member will strengthen CHA’s organizational infrastructure by expanding and professionalizing the volunteer program—particularly in Columbus and Cleveland—and supporting internal development and marketing systems. Responsibilities include developing volunteer recruitment strategies; creating standardized onboarding, training, and scheduling tools; coordinating community volunteers; tracking volunteer participation and service hours; and documenting systems to ensure sustainability beyond the VISTA term.
