CO Public Health Works _Youth Mental Health Worker

Community Health Workers (CHW) with a behavioral health emphasis are frontline public health connectors that have a close understanding of the community they serve. This trusting relationship enables members to serve as a liaison between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. CHW build individual and community capacity through activities like outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy. This Program leverages support from AmeriCorps through Serve Colorado – the Governor’s Commission for Community Service, and philanthropy to empower community-based organizations to meet locally identified needs and statewide challenges through service. Organizations receiving service members work to improve community well-being by providing services that help prevent self-harm, substance use, and improve mental health, particularly in school-aged children adversely impacted by social, economic, and environmental disparities.
