Food Task Force VISTA, Bastrop County & Baylor

BCC is deeply rooted in collaborative, community-driven efforts to address the social determinants of health in rural Central Texas. As a backbone organization for multiple cross-sector collaboratives, we are uniquely positioned to provide a meaningful and impactful experience for an AmeriCorps VISTA member. Our model centers on equity, sustainability, and community voice—with a strong emphasis on engaging individuals with lived experience. Through our Economic Stability Collaborative, the VISTA member will play a key role in strengthening and expanding the Food Task Force, which focuses on increasing food access, reducing hunger, and supporting community-led solutions.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will play a vital role in advancing food security efforts as part of our Economic Stability Collaborative. The VISTA will lead the coordination and development of the Food Task Force, a community-driven group focused on increasing access to healthy food, reducing hunger, and building sustainable food systems in Bastrop County. This project is the result of a collaborative community planning effort facilitated through the Economic Stability Collaborative and informed by community needs assessments, local data, and resident feedback. The need for a more coordinated and equitable food access system emerged as a top priority during these discussions. The VISTA member will help turn these shared goals into actionable strategies that are both community-informed and system-oriented. This role offers the VISTA member the opportunity to contribute to long-term change while building strong relationships with local leaders, organizations, and families across the county.
